Goodland - Whether you are traveling through or looking to relocate to our community, we invite you to see the sights of Sherman County. From the Kidder Massacre to the Big Easel, Sherman County has many diverse attractions. Visit the High Plains Museum or experience some local art at the Carnegie Art Center downtown. Whether it’s one of our quaint restaurants located on Main Street or opt for the convenience of the many restaurants off the Interstate on Exit 17, there are plenty of choices to satisfy your cravings.

Day 1
9:00 A.M.

Start your morning off with some delicious coffee/tea and breakfast at our local coffee shop Good Grounds on Highway 27!

Take a tour through our local museum with over 8,000 objects from over a hundred years of Northwest Kansas history! You can also see the historic schoolhouse right next to it! (Closed on Tuesdays) Allow an hour and half for full tour.

Stop in at the Welcome Center, grab a postcard and sticker, then see the World’s Largest Easel Van Gogh painting!

Go for a walk along the Topside Trail and see the town of Goodland for yourself. The trail is a paved path with directions along the way! You can even enjoy a game of disc golf along the trail! Start the trail at the Goodland Welcome Center!

Oasis on the Plains Tour
Colby – a charming gem nestled in the heart of the High Plains. Colby offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a perfect blend of small-town hospitality and rich history. Whether you're a history buff, nature lover, or simply looking to experience the laid-back beauty of the Kansas plains, Colby has something for everyone. Home to the largest man-made barn in Kansas, Pickin’ on the Plains Bluegrass Festival, and a plethora of shops, Colby welcomes you to spend the day learning and exploring in Thomas County!

Day 2
8:00 A.M.

Begin your adventure in Goodland at Terra Bona Bakery and Cafe or The Bricks by Maria with a delicious bite to eat and head to Colby via highway 24, where you can enjoy the countryside and visit little towns along the way.126 W. 11th (Terra Bona) or 1530 Main Street (The Bricks by Maria)

10:00 A.M.

Immerse yourself in prairie life and Colby’s local history at the Prairie Museum of Art and History. Here you can view the Kuska Collection encompassing glass, dolls, paintings, clothing, and much more. Be sure to check out the largest barn in Kansas, the Cooper Barn, as well! Allow 2 hours (for indoor and outdoor exhibits combined).

Travel 20 minutes to the McCarty Dairy Learning Center to tour the dairy center. Understand the dairy industry from farm to table through interactive activities, food, and much more. Allow 2 hours for the full tour.

Strech your legs and visit local shops (antiques and boutiques) in the downtown area.

5:00 P.M.

Before you leave downtown, take a leisurely stroll through Fike Park. Let the kids roll off steam on the playground, stretch out on the lush grass, or pose for fun pictures next to the tree-carving statues and murals.

Centrally located between Denver and Topeka, off I-70 at exits 70 and 76, and highways U.S. 83 and U.S. 40, Oakley is in the heart of northwest Kansas and a convenient stop whether you are going east or west, north or south.

Day 3
9:00 A.M.

Begin your adventure in Colby at Mokas Café, where you can enjoy a warm or cold cup of coffee served to your liking with a breakfast sandwich or pastry, then travel to Oakley.

Learn all about Buffalo Bill and enjoy the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center’s indoor displays, outdoor storyboard, and picnic area. Allow 30 to 45 minutes for the full tour.

11:00 A.M.

Head over to the Fick Fossil & History Museum and enjoy exhibits detailing the Smoky Hill Trail, Kansas Pacific Depot, a “soddie” house, and world-class fossils. Allow for 30 minutes to an hour for the full tour.
